I am going to a seminar in the next few days and would like to know specifically what the erbium can accomplish. I know that it can’t treat periodontal disease like the Periolase. I believe that Biolase is putting the seminar on. Thanks for your help.

    Hi Bob:
Nice to see you outside the periolase forum. It’s like drinking the same coffee at Starbucks everyday. Sometimes you just need alittle Madagascar Cinnomin added to give a different flavor. Thinking about getting into the Erbium scene are you? I feel that the perioloase and an erbium will really round you out. You can do alot with it. If you will read the last few topics below this you will get some ideas about some of the better choices in manufacturers. I love mine. Can do hard tissue proceedures as well as soft tissue. I thought you have had experience with the erbium laser some years ago. I may be mistaken, but is your question really what is the best machine or consciencous of what we think the best is? Really two entirely different questions. Which is is? What can a erbium do or which one should I purchase?
It was great seeing you on TV.

    Bob,
This is what I do with my Er lasers daily. I do all my basic restorative with an Er laser. In 95+% of the time this is without the “shot”. I do not take alloy out with the laser but do use the laser to numb the tooth while I take the alloy out with the HP. I do all my endo with the Er. I do all my osseous removal with the Er. I do most of my GV’s with the Er. I treat all my soft tissue lesions with the Er.
What I do sometimes with my Er.
    Crown preps without the shot.
Trough around my crown preps. (If the periolase or diode are being use in another room)
    Closed crownlengthing (rare)
    Treat an isolate perio site.
    Some biostim.
    Remove scar tissue.
Uncover implants. ( Prefer this laser to do this)

I am forgeting something but I think you can get a pretty good idea that you can do most anything with an Er that you can think of.

It is a good augmenation to having a periolase. I don’t find it to have the same ROI as the periolase but as far as rounding out my practice and bringing in new patient flow it is a winner.

    Hope that helps
