jaynelsonSpectatorI finally decided to take the laser plunge after lurking and reading all the great info and excitement here. I am now the proud owner of a Hoya Con Bio DELight. My friend and mentor, Dave Kimmel stopped by on Friday to give me some pointers and encouragement. I am planning to attend the Nash Institute course in November and I can’t wait. Looking forward to seeing what the laser can do for my patients and my practice!

N8RVSpectatorJay, welcome to the club. As a fellow new user, I can appreciate the struggles and rewards you’re about to enjoy.
I’ll also be at Nash next month. We’ll have to exchange notes. Don’t get discouraged and don’t be afraid to ask questions on this board. Folks like David have been extremely patient and helpful to me and have helped me overcome some rough spots. I was nearly ready to give up and chuck the thing out the window, but am glad I didn’t.
Enjoy and I’ll see you in Charlotte!

Glenn on the roadSpectatorCOngrats Jay………I am looking forward to the Charlotte experience and it is far smaller in size than the LVI experience but similar in breadth of material.
I am proud of DOn for hanging in there, gosh I was worried with all the problems he had initially. SOme of them were a rarity …..the unit itself, and some were just because of inexperience. He has really worked hard to overcome the learning curve and reminds me of a young Ron Schalter who as a laser neophyte read voraciously on this board and now is a wonderful clinician, a great laser user and really understands the interaction of laser physics , science and clinical effectiveness.
This board he has created can be a HUGE benefit in lessening the learning curve as can be Dental Town (its slanted a bit more towards Biolase users though). I think that I have learned tons from so many people here and that combined with high mag and 5 years of using lasers I have learned how to use them more effectively with time.
I hope that I have imparted some of that knowledge to you here in some of the posts that are available to read from prior times, and in addition I hope that I am able to help you out at Charlotte North Carolina at the Nash Institute.
THe laser isnt a panacea for all things, or a reason to throw away your handpieces but boy can it be helpful financially and clinically in your practice. WIth commitment you can improve the clinical ability to treat people and create a financial situation that is vastly superior to what you were doing before.
Looking forward to meeting you in Charlotte and make darn sure you shake my hand and tell me that you are on LDF.
Dont be afraid to ask questions!!!
Glenn
AnonymousGuestHi Jay. You picked a great guy to mentor you. Just DO NOT SWITCH NAME TAGS WITH HIM AT ANY LASER MEETINGS, no matter what the reason is he gives you. 😉
As Glenn so kindly pointed out, when I was young I had all kinds of questions and these guys were very patient in answering them. I hope you and Mitch feel free to ask away and share your cases with all of us.
Welcome to LDF!
dkimmelSpectatorJay, great to see you posting. I have noticed you checking the board out. The best why to learn on this board is to just jump in and ask away. Unlike Dental Town it is a pretty safe way to learn. There are some very smart laser doc’s that are very tolerant. Heck they let me hang around.
Both you and Don are going to have a great time in Charlotte. Do pick Glenns brain.
Thanks Jay for the kind works and I learned as much from you Friday as you did from me. Jay is a pretty sharp dentist and will be a great addition to the forum.Oh , and Ron is just goofing about the name tag thing!
DAvid
Glenn on the roadSpectatorAs Ron mentioned not only is David a bad guy to change name tags with under any circumstances. He also has a split personality with one side that wants to buy a microscope and another that doesnt. He doesnt know whether he is coming or going………but he does have extensive knowledge about lasers and he is a laser groupie possibly with the other musketeers (Albert and Allen Williams) having gone to more continuing lectures than anyone I know. He has lots of lasers in his practice, and really understands laser physics.
This is a wonderful resource for personal growth in the area of lasers and there is an air of mutual respect and passion for the understanding of the role of lasers in dentistry.
I have pasted one last photo from my present trip to Australia where we went to Manly yesterday and had a great lunch overlooking the ocean.

jaynelsonSpectatorDon, Looking forward to meeting you at Nash
Ron, Thanks for the warm welcome and for creating this great resource. I’ve known Dave for about 10 years but I don’t think anyone could mix us up.
Glenn, I am looking forward to learning from you in Charlotte. I’ve already been forewarned about the microscope thing.

i’ve had my DeLight for almost a year. you will be amazed at the way guys are using it. this forum is awesome–it has been a great source for helping me through the learning curve. look forward to meeting you in charlotte as well
dave
whitertthSpectatorGood luck and welcome to the laser community….
emc85Spectatorwhen did dave kimmel gain grand poobah status? he’s now a mentor? haha.
dave knows his stuff and should be a great resource for you.
i’ve had my delight since january and happy to have made the decision. still learning everyday.
good luck and welcome to the club.
dkimmelSpectatorNorman, that was a typo. It was suppose to be MENTAL not Mentor!
N8RVSpectatorAs a quick aside, when do I lose this “Newbie” status?
I’m not denying my inexperience — in fact, I wear it proudly. However, there MUST be a step or two beween “Newbie” and “Grand Poobah”, right?
— Don Newbie
2thlaserSpectatorGotta post more!
Mark
N8RVSpectatorGeez, Mark … I can’t post much more … I don’t KNOW anything!
Actually, now that I have a decent camera, I’m hoping to document a case or two to share. Not sure exactly how to do that, but I’ll figure it out, even if I have to have somebody else host the pictures.
Maybe that’ll get me to the next level, whatever that is. I don’t wanna be a Guru or even a Grand Pubah … just tired of being a Newbie.
dkimmelSpectatorDon, send me โ in small unmarked bills and I’ll see what I can do to get you bumped up to advanced.
Better yet let me wear your name tag at the next ALD meeting and you can wear mine. Jst to see if anyone notices.David
