now that i’ve had my DeLight for 1 year my service coverage is up. for &#364K i can extend the service for one year. it seems extremely steep for “peace of mind.” can anyone give me any guidance on this. how vulnerable are these lasers to developing problems?

    thanks

i am approaching the same timeline on my delight too. i have had no problems…zero!

i am so confident that i am not going to renew it. that laser is indestructible.

The question is: What problems have users had and what would it have cost to fix? That would enable one to weigh the pros & cons of the service contract.

    Anyone care to chime in?

Deciding whether or not to purchase an extended service contract on an erbium dental laser is almost as much fun as going to Vegas and hedging your bets on future Social Security benefits.

Nearing the end of the one year warranty on my DELight Er:YAG, I experienced an electrical problem. A few weeks after my warranty expired, the problem recurred. HOYA corrected the situation without question.

Currently, I practice “unsafe” erbium laser dentistry. But be aware that if you blow a flashlamp or burn out a crystal, repairs can cost in the many thousands of dollars. It’s a tough call.

    Merry Christmas,

I passed the one year point a couple of months ago with my Delignt and decided to gamble also and not renew the warranty. After a few little problems the first month or so, I’ve had no problems. I can’t imagine a more low maintenance laser. Turn on and off and refill water, that’s it. Delight repair guys must feel like the old Maytag repair people.

Your comment about the Maytag repairman is exactly what Don Wilson said in his presentation 3 weeks ago. He even includes photos of his Delight laying on the ground sideways near his airplane and coming out of a hotel.

I called hoya. To fix a problem you’re looking at a couple grand, just for the housecall. If you decide later to get the coverage, you ship your unit to hoya, at your expense, then charge you to bring it up to new condition, then ship it back to you at your expense. Honestly, I feel totally f***ed by Hoya. Major buyer’s remorse.

for laser problems, the following is very reputable, and pricing is better than from the factory.

    jkline,
What kind of problem are you having with your laser? How long ago did you buy it? Is it still under warranty?

Just had Kevin in my office today for a yearly tune up. Great job and quick. BTW, if you haven’t had them replace the fan on your Waterlase, its definitely worth it, we can hardly hear the thing running now!
