bongoSpectatorI am a neophyte with respect to lasers. I feel that a soft tissue laser could help me much in my practice, particularly with respect to c&b, troughing around preps before impressions, periodontal use, apthous ulcer trtmnt, herpetic lesions trtmnt., desensitization of roots, etc. I am especially interested in c&b and perio. would like to take some good ce courses before purchasing a laser. I know the Academy of Laser Dentisry is having ther annual meeting in Palm Springs in March 2004. I was hoping to do something before then. I hate to be at the mercy of a manufacturer and get biased inf. Any help would be nice and appreciated.

AnonymousGuestRobert,
Welcome to the forum!
Here’s a few resources to get you going-Dental Applications of Advanced Lasers
The last one is very technical and high on physics and math- you may want to wait awhile on that one.
These should help alot before you go to the ALD meeting.
bongoSpectatorron,
Thanks for your reply. Where can I find these resources? I agree I think it would be a good idea to read these first. Do you think it is a good idea to go to a ALD meeting before making a purchase?
Bob
AnonymousGuestBob, I linked each one of the resources to where you can buy them. Just click on one and it will take you to the site.
Get as much exposure as needed before buying so you can know what you are comparing.
bongoSpectatorRon,
I really appreciate your help. I will purchase one or more of these books to get started. Thanks for your time.

dkimmelSpectatorBob, Read as much as you can. Spend as much time as you can digging through this form. Go to the ALD take the exams. Look for a laser users close to you. Most of us would gladly have you come and take them for a test drive. Take them all for a test drive.

bongoSpectatorDavid,
Thanks alot for your reply. I think and feel fortunate I found a good web site that is both professional and people seem to care. Sometimes small replies can make a difference in someones life. Thank you again. Ron has given me some good inf to get me going. I am starting to feel kind of excited about this new area of dentistry. Seems pretty cool. Thanks again.

Kenneth LukSpectatorHi Bob,
Do go through all the threads as Bob Gregg and others do give great explanations on laser physics and tissue interactions.
It’ll take time BUT once you started , you can’t stop!
But if you’re happily married, your wife will tell you when!;)

kellyjblodgettdmdSpectatorAmen to Ken’s post. My wife is always asking, “Are you coming to bed yet?” I’m addicted to laser dentistry!
Bob, I wanted to let you know that I bought the “Laser Therapy” text by Tuner and Hodes. It is mostly about Low Level Laser Therapy, but a very informative text. I use it frequently. You’ll probably find that you’ll learn more on this site than any where else. I look forward to hearing from you on the site.Kelly
Kenneth LukSpectatorHi Kelly,
My wife didn’t ask the question “Are you coming to bed yet?”
Her statement is “Don’t bother coming to bed, you might as well stay up all night!”
It’s like jumping on the site every now and then even for 5 mins while she’s busy with something else
Bob,
I’d certainly go for the Manni’s book first (Dental Applications of Advanced Lasers)!
