The company considers the final document inaccurate, misleading, and scientifically unsubstantiated, especially as it relates to laser-assisted new attachment procedure, or the LANAP protocol. HYPERLINK "http://www.ada.org/prof/resources/positions/statements/lasers_final.asp" http://www.ada.org/prof/resources/positions/statements/lasers_final.asp What is of special interest and concern to Millennium, is the focus the ADA gave to the LANAP protocol, and the fact that none of the clinicians who developed the patented LANAP protocol were involved in the Working Group Committee deliberations. The LANAP protocol is a laser-based and patient-preferred method of treating mild to severe cases of gum disease without the use of scalpels or sutures. The LANAP protocol was developed by Robert H. Gregg, DDS and Delwin K. McCarthy, DDS in 1991, patented in 1994 and FDA cleared in 2004. The LANAP protocol is supported by the 4th largest human histology with a control group the gold standard of research in the published, peer-reviewed periodontal literature and was the basis for the FDAs decision to clear laser assisted new attachment procedure. It defies logic that the inventors of anything would be excluded from any review process of an invention, especially the final review. commented Robert H. Gregg, DDS, President of MDT and co-inventor of the LANAP protocol. Dr. Gregg continued, In September of 2008, we were given 10 days to offer comment on a draft document. We were not, however, allowed to review the proposed final statement before it was adopted and published. Delwin K. McCarthy, DDS, CTO of Millennium and co-developer of the LANAP protocol, stated, It is terribly unfortunate that after 20 years of experience in my clinical use of most lasers developed for dentistry for a variety of procedures, that the use of lasers for the purposes of treating periodontal disease, and the research that supports it, continues to be marginalized. Drs. McCarthy and Gregg are both co-authors of the Curriculum Guidelines for Dental Laser Education mentioned as authoritative in the ADA laser statement. As clinicians, clinical investigators, educators, and contributors to the laser dentistry landscape, it is bewildering that such expertise was not involved in the final statement review. Mark Monaghan, CEO of MDT stated, While attempts by the ADA to offer guiding information to the public and the profession regarding the use of lasers in dentistry is a worthy objective, MDT finds the lack of transparency in the process involved in this case and the final statement to be flawed and counter-productive. Professor Raymond A. Yukna, DMD, MS, and Director of Advanced Periodontal Therapeutics at the University of Colorado, Denver School of Dental Medicine. Professor Yukna led the controlled, triple blinded, calibrated, prospective, clinical and human histological study that evidenced unique findings following the use of the LANAP protocol, and subsequently published in the prestigious peer reviewed periodontal literature. These results are very positive, very consistent, and very encouraging related to the treatment of deep gum pockets, said Yukna. Dentists have been looking for ways to regenerate some of the tissues lost to gum infections and the LANAP protocol is an exciting and revolutionary treatment protocol showing microscopically that we can form a new root coating (cementum) and new connective tissue attachment (collagen). Our consistent results (all LANAP treated teeth showed a positive result) suggest that the best possible type of healing can be obtained using the specific LANAP protocol. This presents a wonderful alternative to traditional surgery. Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc is the manufacturer of the PerioLase MVP-7, the worlds first digital dental laser and which was specifically designed to support the LANAP protocol. The company sponsors research to help add to the body of literature and help demonstrate the safety and efficacy of lasers for specific clinical outcomes that benefits patients. Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc is the manufacturer and distributor of the PerioLase MVP-7, specifically designed to support the patented LANAP protocol. #### SOURCE: Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc. 04/28/09 /NOTE TO EDITORS: Additional information can be viewed at HYPERLINK "http://www.millenniumdental.com" http://www.millenniumdental.com /CONTACT: Mark Monaghan, CEO, 562-860-2908 or Cell# 949-283-5499 HYPERLINK "mailto:mmonaghan@millenniumdental.com" mmonaghan@millenniumdental.com ; Dr. Delwin McCarthy, Chief Technology Officer, 562-860-2908 or cell # 562-577-2455 or HYPERLINK "mailto:rgregg@millenniumdental.com" dmccarthy@millenniumdental.com or Dr. Robert Gregg, President, 562-860-2908 or cell # 562-577-2454 or HYPERLINK "mailto:rgregg@millenniumdental.com" rgregg@millenniumdental.com PAGE PAGE 2 &/<[bcg0 2 @ H J K L Ⱥ鴮|q|_RJqhZHCJaJhhsNb0JCJaJ#jhhsNbCJUaJhsNbhsNbCJaJhsNbCJaJjhsNbCJUaJhVCJaJhzCJaJhECJaJ hECJ hZHCJ hsNbCJhZHhZH5>*CJaJhV5>*CJaJhj5>*CJaJhsNb5>*CJaJ hvCJ hvCJh %hvCJaJce xyNO<=`gd]gd]gdVgdl gdEgdZH `^``gdsNb M f ( ) * + / 3 5 > c d h l +U^_ KginFvNO輴輴𼴼hCJaJhZHhl CJaJhVCJaJhl CJaJhjhjCJH*aJhd/KCJaJhSvCJaJhzCJaJhjCJaJhECJaJh2CJaJ=(*+:BOV[_x.="4}=UViwjhhuy)CJUhvhuy)CJjhuy)CJU huy)CJ hVCJ h|CJ hvCJhCJaJh,*;h]B*CJaJphh]h]CJh,*;hKACJaJhCJaJh]CJaJh,*;h]CJaJhKACJaJ*<=h]hgd &`#$gdk ]`gd|`gd|gd|$a$]gdV >?CVpr~нЭМ֍}td}\Q}hh|0JCJh|0JCJjhh|CJUhuy)h|CJjh|CJU h|CJhvh|CJ h]CJ hX#CJh hN. 0JCJjh hN.
