I have tried spoons with a good deal of success, but there is some degree of learning how to manipulate them, not to mention how to sharpen them.

I lately find I can’t live without the J.Morita dentaport zx which I got some 3 months ago. I use it at 200 rpm with a sharp, and regularly cleaned 6 round bur to remove the decay after I have opened up the enamel with the waterlase. Nobody has ever felt it yet. And they won’t unless the tooth had a pulp exposure and therefore pain before I began work on it. Keeping the bur unclogged is very important to making it efficient.

I am able to be more gentle with the rotating handpiece than with the spoons. The laser takes away tactile sense, and that is often still necessary to effectively take out all the decay. I clean the cavity and etch the prep with the waterlase before I fill with composite.

There can’t possibly be any microfractures when this handpiece is used as it shuts off if I press very hard.

And used as it was intended on root canals, I open the canal wide enough to accept a 20 or 30 micron endo tip with which I sterilize and enlarge without fear of ledging.

It’s needs to be attached to the top of my laser case with velcro or something! It’s that much of an essential partner.

I look around my office and see that only my x-ray, and high speed handpiece now prevent me from playing the “itenerant dentist” if I wanted to. So little is nailed down now it’s amazing how things are going full circle.

Cool idea Cerec doc……never thought of using the Dentaport like that……
Will send your thread to the local Jmorita rep and mention what you are doing.

    They will love it.

Dentaport ZX is an electric handpiece designed to do rotary endo but it has an apex locator built into it. A monkey could do a root canal with it.

No, I haven’t tried to merge waterlase and cerec, but I may try it soon. I’ll use a cylinder diamond about 557 in a slow speed handpiece…the dentaport zx… to “file smooth” the prep after I do the bulk reduction with the laser.
