40 yo male physician patient of mine presents with complaint of bump on inside of cheek which he has been biting for years. Made a clinical diagnosis of fibroma which measured 8 X 8mm on left buccal mucosa. Anesthetized area with 4% articaine 1:100k epinephrine. Excised the fribroma using a Er:YAG laser(HOYA ConBio DELight) using a conical, straight soft-tissue tip. This tip does not provide either air or water to the treatment site. Console settings on the Er:YAG were 30Hz and 100mJoules.
Biopsy returned negative and consistent with clinical diagnosis of fribroma. Patient reported mild discomfort for a duration of 48 hours and that he was pleased with removal of the irritation to his mastication.
Similar results may be obtained with scalpel or radiosurge/electrosurge excision. Purpose of the presentation is simply to demonstrate excision and healing with an alternative treatment modality.
