Glenn van AsSpectatorHi folks: I have been asked numerous times about how to do laser dentistry without anesthetic and still isolate the teeth and keep them dry. I have managed to secure something I think you should all look at when you are interested in laser dentistry and isolation.
Its the ISOLITE.
It has the following parts to it….
Bite Block
Illumination with a resin filter to prevent premature setting of resins.
Suction tip.
Tongue retractor and cheek retractor. There are a variety of sizes including Pedo, Small and Large.
I really like them , they are tolerated well by the patients and are nice for lasers!!
My assistant is always looking for something to do with them……..!!
Here is a case I did today on a little 4 year old girl who has large occlusal decay. I was able to do the restorations WITHOUT any anesthetic at all……I was proud of myself for being able to get it done and get it documented.
Erbium settings were 240 mj and 25 Hz , no anesthetic at all. Used Marks spoons and NO slowspeeds to remove the last bit of decay.
Used Fuji 9 for the restorative as the decay is huge everywhere but mom was a little upset with a fluoride restorative but I really think for her daughter it was the best choice.
I think that the restorations are a little chalky looking but it was amazing to get this done without anesthetic and boy did the ISOLITE help alot with retraction , isolation and suction.
Little girl was excellent………hope you like it and Mark have you tried this……..probably have darn it all.
Take a look at it…….it works great.

kellyjblodgettdmdSpectatorGlenn…Great job!! I haven’t talked to anyone who has used the Isolite. I’m glad to hear you like it. I will have to give it a try. Do you recall how much it cost?
One thing I have been doing on restorations like these to finish is to place an unfilled resin over the top, or sometimes just prep the Fuji IX back a 1/2 mm, and place flowable over the top. As I can imagine, however, I’m sure you were on the move working on a 4 year old. I have been impressed by how well these Fuji IX restorations hold up under occlusal loading.
I had a little chuckle when you mentioned that the Mom was not happy with a “Fluoride” filling. God forbid you would place a restoration that might actually help prevent a new cavity (that’s my online sarcasm).
Great job, Glenn. I appreciate how much you participate in this forum. I’m doing my best to keep up with you. (Hard job!!)

Glenn van AsSpectatorHi Kelly: its tough sometimes to get something that is new and worthwhile to post on. The isolite really helped and on a 4 year old yet.
Its around 1000 dollars and there is a short learning curve but it is cool and she really was good with it .
It isolates, suctions , illuminates (not important for me with the scope), retracts tongue and cheek and has a bite block.
It doesnt always work and the bite blocks are disposable throwaways and are 2.50 or so US per mouth prop.
I think the suction works great and there is a resin inhibitor to help out.
Kelly you are right up there with your posts……
I thought about a flowable but I was worried about keeping it dry…….she was good though.
Anyways thanks for the compliments and off to see your other posts……..
take care and thanks for the compliments but finally a good way of keeping it dry WITHOUT anesthetic……couldnt have done it on the little girl…

Glenn van AsSpectatorPS here is the web site for the product, and I sure like the owner. His brother phoned me up to follow up with how I liked it and we chatted for 5 mins or so……..
The inventor is a dentist and he did a nice job…….its not perfect but with the various sizes it is alot better.
If anyone orders one , mention my name to Thomas the inventor so he knows that I am promoting it…….
HERE IS THE WEB SITE….

Nice case as usualPlease axplain why are Mark’s spoons any beter than normal small excavators?
Thanks
Mickey
Glenn van AsSpectatorHi there: I am not sure about the transformer but they are really only selling the Isolite in the USA at present.
I know they have big plans though.
In addition I will mention to Mickey that Marks spoons are very small and very sharp with a really neat design.
I dont get paid for them and paid for mine but they are really great and well worth the money. Mine are still sharp , dont know how but they stay sharp.
Cool shapes and nice small sizes to alot of his other instruments too…..
I GIVE THEM 2 BIG THUMBS UP.
