After showing some keen interest in the Waterlase I have been approached by alocal rep for the Kavo Key 3 laser. Does anyone out there have any experience with this machine and/or can you shed any light on this relatively new machine(at least to north america). How does it ccompare to the other Er lasers?

I have looked at the DVD, and also looked at their brochure.

Interesting that they are really marketing heavily the lasers usefulness as a surgical laser and for calculus removal through the feedback cycle from their calculus detection system.

I dont like that there seems to be no contact tips for restorations. Non contact tips in my experience create preparations that are less distinct in sharpness and in addition they need to be 10-20 mm away from the surface they are cutting (this isnt always easy in the posterior).

Its more expensive here in Canada than the other erbium yags ( 70 K vs 107K )

I would also like to know more and my viewpoints dont necessarily mean squat………

It would depend on what you are looking for.

My other question is whether the Kavo Key 3 is a fiber or a hollow wave guide.

    Great DVD they produced though.

I had spoken to the dentist from Kavo about Key Laser 3 sometime ago (July2002 I think).
They’re emphasising more about its use on perio and endo treatment.
As for hard tissue removal, it may not be as effective as other Erbium lasers.
I did ask for more info and papers since, but I did not receive any reply at all.
    Hope this helps.
