drnewittSpectatorNice Andrew
Looks pretty angry there on day 3 but huge jump on day 10! is it common for the changes seen between day – 1 and day-3 with the diode? How was it feeling for the patient on those days between 3-10?
Is that a playoff beard he has going on day 28?
ASISpectatorThanks Paul.
The greatest challenge was to encourage patient not to lick area with his tongue nor touch it with finger. Two of the greatest tools of curiosity….
In terms of discomfort, it was not a concern. The sloughing was more of a bother to the patient as can be imagined.

Nice tissue control with the diode!
Excellent result!
Great pcitures and documantation too.

Glenn van AsSpectatorAndrew……..great case. NEat stuff. I was surprised by the ulceration on day 3.
Did you expect that.
Are the pics through the scope……very sharp and ver clear.
Clap clap clap.
Great documentation and pictures.
Glenn
ASISpectatorThanks Bob & Glenn,
I didn’t really know what to expect but was somewhat alarmed as well (but of course reassured the patient that it was all a normal healing progression) by the appearance from Day 3 to Day 7. However, the localized nature of the slough indicated that it was well contained. It only made sense that if the stagnant pool of blood has absorbed the laser energy of the diode, it would lead to the sloughing process as seen.
The pics were done through the scope.
Regards,
Andrew

kellyjblodgettdmdSpectatorAndrew – Great case. I can only imagine how appreciative this patient must be.
I’d like to ask, you said that you performed this in a defocused manner. As I look at the fiber tip on the third photo, it appears that the tip is initiated (dark). Was it, in fact, initiated or just my eyes playing tricks on me?
Beautiful case!
Kelly
ASISpectatorHi Kelly,
Thanks.
The tip was indeed initiated. I had intended to do an in contact treatment as well as noncontact, as per Dr Janet Rice’s case in the recent Wavelengths journal. But then decided during treatment not to do so, as I wanted to see how it might turn out without inducing a bleeding point.
By the sound of things, a Periolase is on your horizon in the very near future. If so, congrats.
Regards,
Andrew
kellyjblodgettdmdSpectatorThanks for the clarification, Andrew! Fantastic result.
As a matter of fact, I’ll be heading to LA in 3 weeks for training. You can imagine how excited I am!
Talk w/ you soon.
Kelly
mmaccaroSpectatorNice result, great service to the patient.
How many joules to achieve your result? -
