    Hi All,

Could anyone provide protocol to office laser bleaching by 980nm diode?
    Re:
    1. bleaching product used
    2. tip used
    3. setting
    4. duration on each tooth
    5. position of tip placement to tooth
    6. any other technique suggestion or recommendation

    Thanks.

    Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your compliment on my implantitis case.
Here’s the protocal from Mike Swick for 980 bleaching.
    Whitening handpiece giving 7mm spot on tooth;
    5W CW 30-40sec
If patient feels pain/heat, reduce power or duration
Leave gel on for 5-7 min and repeat 4-5 times
Biolitec does have their whitening kit. The gel turns from blue to white upon activation.
I’ve limited success. Follow up with home bleaching(Nite White). Great results after one week.
Take a look at smartbleach from Australia: sounds good but expensive

    Thanks, Ken.

What bleaching product do you use? Is it the Biolitec one?

Do you know if there many other dentists using laser dentistry in HK? Any Laser Dental Society or Organization in your area?

    Hi Andrew,
I use the Biolitec whitening kit.
    I’ve also tried using the 980 on 35% h2o2 of Opalescence .
    Will send you photos later.
There is only me using Biolitec. One using Opus diode and only a few on Lasersmile.
Still trying to get some regular get together with other laser dentists.
There’s no org. for laser dentistry in HK. In fact, I think I’m the only ALD current member.
Do you know many 980 users in US?
I’ve only got the 980 in Jan this year. I’m using the 980 all the time on crown troughing , endos, and perios daily. Great machine.
What’re your experiences with the 980?

    Hi Ken,

I am just about to receive it. In fact, it was supposed to arrive this week. I am using my Hoya ConBio Delight laser for the past 2 weeks. Going great so far. It cuts soft tissue very well but I need the 980nm to coagulate.

I am in West Vancouver, BC in Canada. There is just a handful of laser users in BC. Most notably is Glenn van As who is an inspiration to all, not just in lasers but in microcopes. I am waiting for my scope to arrive as well.

This is a great meeting place. Thanks to Ron Schalter.

Hope some of us will get a chance to meet at some laser event down the road as I have already met some during the California Dental Convention in late April.

    hi
I’m doing a lot of bleaching with 980 and I do it with quasar brite, contrastam and the kit of bleaching of biolitec.
We know now that it’s impossible to have good results without home bleaching kit.We give patients 3m zaris for finishing of the bleaching.
I use a 1000um fiber at 30 sec by tooth at 6-7 watts continuous. If patients have pain I move to the following tooth and when they are all done I wait 3 inutes as recommended.Always use etching before bleaching and keep vit E near just in case of gums problems.
    good luck

This was my first try at Rod’s “deep bleaching” technique with Zoom weekender and Lasersmile.(Patient only used Zoom for 2 nights).

The lasersmile bleaching is done in conjunction with Zoom Weekender take home and trays.
Before first laser bleaching appointment well fitting bleaching trays were made and photo taken.
Patient had lasersmile bleaching ,done after prophy and isolation, for four minutes only.
Patient was given zoom and instructed to use it for two weekends. After that she was to come in for full laser bleaching.
She came in and said she only used the Zoom for two nights.
We continued, flour of pumice mixed with peroxide for the prophy We then etched the teeth two at a time for 3 secs and rinsed. We then isolated teeth and did the lasersmile protocol(8 minutes, suction reapply then bleach 8 more min.)
We then used I-Bond to seal the teeth. Post op photo and instructions given.
    Hope that helps.

I know that it has been a while since this thread has been visited, but my interest in Diode assisted bleaching has peaked.

    The question is:

Does the diode make a greater difference in shade change acheived with one sitting as compared to the “in office” systems? Most Diodes seem to take more than one sitting to get full results or use a followup tray system, which seems like a jump start only.

Also, does the wavelength make a difference in effect and comfort?

I have also been sagely advised to get a diode for its other capabilities rather than solely on the bleaching effect.

    Yea or neh?

somebody please help me.My question is
    1. Do you have to use the biolase bleach with the lasersmile.2.If not , what are my choices, because it is very hard to get the biolase bleach.
    Thanks Dilshad

    Try Powergel diode bleach. 503-585-3344

I liked it better then the Biolase bleach but have not used the new and improved version.

That said I find laser bleaching to have no advantage over non-light source bleaching. Except for Biostimualtion of course. smile.gif

    Hi All
The Smartbleach system referred to seems to be the Deka KTP technology.

I saw before and after SEM pictures recently of cases where various bleaching methods were used. The pictures were done by the Univerity of Vienna and were presented as part of the ESOLA course. In some instances there were clearly changes in the surface texture of the teeth. Is anybody concerned about this kind of changes (damage?) to the enamel? Should I be?
Thanks for any thoughts about this.
    Take care

    Hi all,

Is anyone using the Odyssey II for laser bleaching? If so what is the protocol and what should I look out for in terms of potential problems? Thanks!
