drkddsSpectatorI am currently revamping my practice logo. Does anyone have a problem with me using the phrase “Family Laser Dentistry” in my logo? Not as the name in my logo, just a phrase. I have posed this question to the MDA and am currently waiting for a response. I currently use two lasers in my practice, the DELight and the DiagnoDent.
SwpmnSpectatorAlways a tough call. In the strictest sense, probably the only acceptable phrase is “General Dentistry”. We’ve used “Laser, Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry” for three years without a complaint. My sign out front reads “DENTIST”. A friend up the street has a new sign which I think reads “Laser, Cosmetic and Family Dentistry”.
The things I think we could potentially get in trouble with are terms like “painless”, “no shots”, “no drills”, etc. In fact, my Florida West Coast District Dental Association sent out an advertising “guideline” in one of their newsletters which basically said “Don’t advertise laser procedures as being painless and don’t advertise them as being superior to conventional treatment”.
With the “Family” thing you have to consider the fact that not everyone has a family. They might be single, estranged from the family or the family might all be passed away. These folks still might benefit from laser dentistry;)

kellyjblodgettdmdSpectatorDoug – I have a thought on this. One thought is that every dentist under the sun practically has the “Family and Cosmetic (or Esthetic) Dentistry” under their name. This seems a little rhetorical to me. Who else do we see but families?! I don’t know any dentists specializing in “Singles Only” dentistry. Also, does saying “Family” dentistry convey any real value to a patient? Just asking since you are thinking of re-working your logo/pracitce image.
I agree with your cautiousness about adding “laser” to your practice description, not because it doesn’t indicate the style of dentistry you are practicing, but because your neighboring dentists will probably put up some sort of stink about it.
I’m going to see if I can find a copy of my logo to post. I changed my corny “Family and Cosmetic Dentistry” to “Laser and Microdentistry” since I felt it more accurately depicted the style of dentistry I practice.
Hope some of this helps.

AnonymousGuestNo problems here either.
If you’re looking for a designer, I found these guys online. 2.5 years ago it was 踰 for logo and letterhead with unlimited revisions.
drkddsSpectator….still laughing about Family Dentistry jokes…:)
Thanks for your input. I’ll keep you informed about the MDA’s opinion. BTW, nice logos, thanks for sharing. I’ll post mine when I make the final decision.
The ad’s is use in the local newspaper have a disclaimer about “not all procedures can be done without anesthesia, not all procedures can be done with laser, laser dentistry is not superior to other forms of dental care, etc.”
whitertthSpectatorI do alot of marketing lectures, especially marketing lectures relating to l asers….I think u should defintely use Laser in your name and drop family dentistry for reasons alrready mentioned by Kelly..Laser and microdentistry is great if u use a scope Laser and Microsope enhanced Dentistry is another…These names shouldnt be a problem with the MDA
drkddsSpectatorKelly,
Your website rocks!! I have the Caesy software in-office. I love how it is available on the website. Nice touch!
drkddsSpectatorWell, I finally got the logo done. I promised I’d post it. Feedback please. I decided not to use “Family Laser Dentistry” – didn’t want to single anyone out! .
