whitertthSpectatorJust spent a day with Stephan Luger…one of the motknowledgeable non dentists in the microscope field…Stephan, increased my knowledge with specific pointers and redirected my posture today . Posture is so critical with scopes it can make u or break u..If any of u need asistance…call Stephan he is well worth the money….If u r looking in to buying a scope call him as well….He is a dealer for Seiler but dosent care realy which one u buy he can train u on any…..
dkimmelSpectatorStephan is a great guy even through he is a power boater.
I tried Glenns idea in the anterior doing #8 MLDF and #9 MLIF. It does work better placing the mirror on the lower lip.
Graeme is also correct. It is a bit too early for crown preps . My last procedure today was a F on #21. It was real easy. Starting to get the hang of it. Just need about another 6 months.
Off to go sailing and work on the boat for a week. Have a great week and enjoy being with the family on Turkey day.DAvid
Glenn van AsSpectatorDid you get a chance to look at the package I sent you.
I hope it arrived. In addition I find that the upper arch is easier and the lower arch (molars and premolars) are more difficult .
I am trying to get people from Global to contact both you and Mark Colonna regarding scope trials.
Keep me in touch about whether they do contact you.

AnonymousGuestWhile the scope discussion continues, I’d like to make an addition (unsolicited recommendation, actually).
Glenn, I have to compliment you on your Microscope Training DVD. Watched it on my way to NY to take Barry Musikant’s Safesider Course (very good BTW). I was able to sit and do the procedure under Barry’s scope. In fact, Barry was a little surprised that I did do it with the scope, as he said most people with loupes try the scope for a couple minutes and give up. Granted, I was able to turn the extracted tooth a little easier than I would a patient, but the scope basics I learned were very helpful. The DVD also gave me lots to think about how the scope will be setup in my op’s.
If you are thinking about scopes, I think you’d find Glenn’s DVD useful and I’m sure he can provide details on how to purchase it.
Glenn van AsSpectatorThanks Ron……I must admit that the DVD took some thinking on to get it to the point where I made the DVD. There is a learning curve but I do think it is worth it and it seems that more and more people tend to agree.
I hope that with time more people will find the scope to be as powerful a practice builder and as great for lasers as I do but who knows…..maybe I will be the only one!!
Take care and all the best

Kenneth LukSpectatorHi Glenn,
Thanks for making the DVD. I’m now using my scope and enjoying the magnification!
Did a frenectomy yesterday, I can see the remnant fibers pulling the site and removing them with precision!
Looking forward to your next DVDs !
Ken
Kenneth LukSpectatorHi Glenn,
More hands on the scope from you at ALD ?
Ken(Edited by Kenneth Luk at 8:11 pm on Nov. 25, 2004)
Glenn van AsSpectatorHi Ken……..yes the scope has a learning curve and I do hope that the DVD helps a little with that. Its not the b-all and end all but another tool in helping learn to use the scope for all things. You are right on with the frenectomy……you can see the fibers cant you…..
Its wild. They look like guitar strings. One of the nice things in seeing laser users start using scopes for their treatment is that I see that some people are recognizing that some of my ideas are valid. There is a growing acceptance of the value of microscopes for laser dentistry and general dentistry as well.
I must admit that this is comforting in some way to know that high magnfication is becoming more common and that perhaps in some small way I had something to do with some people embracing microscopes and lasers together.
Ken, I will be at the ALD and will be doing some magnification with loupes and scopes but not to the same degree as last years course. It really is a course to let people “see” what is possible with loupes and scopes for lasers. Not a hands on training course (that is for the AMED group….http://www.microscopedentistry.com)
Take care and thanks for the kudos….
I am making a DVD for the lasers now.

dkimmelSpectatorI was off sailing last week. It was great to be out of the office for a while. I did take Glenn’s DVD with me. Sure wish I had it prior to getting the scope in the office. This thread helped me a great deal with my first week with the scope but the DVD filled in the blanks. I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of buying a scope. It would be best to get the DVD before even looking at the scope.
That said , a week without using the scope and trying to jump into it first thing Monday morning is real tough!!
Tuesday was much better. Basic restorative is getting easier. I tried a crown prep again. I started off with my occlusal reduction and found it tough to get my depth orientation. Then I decided to back up cut my prep with my loops and then work at refining my margins with the scope. That worked better . Just a matter of keeping at it.
As a side, using the scope has really helped my four handed dentistry. By the scope forcing you to stay in the working field the assistant just has no choice but to handoff instruments and material correctly. This tends to make procedures go faster.Next week Seiler is letting me try out a scope. I may still have the Zeiss at the same time. Seems they have a new attachment that allows you to tip the scope but keep the eyepieces level and they will install it this week, letting me keep the scope another week. Now all I have to do is get Global to let me try out a scope.
