    Glenn,
That handpiece has been available for nearly 2 years. It works about 20% faster, BUT it does have limited applications in certain areas of the mouth. If we had curved (I think you have these) tips then it could be used more often, but it really is a great handpiece. If I have time today, and I am doing wifey things around the house for Christmas….I will post a photo of it later, as I just happen to have it in my backpack from my last course we gave. Have a great Holiday Season, my best to you and your family!

    Sincerely,
    Mark

Hi Mark: It may have been around for two years but we both know where the handpiece design came from. I have both the contraangle which is available for the Delight and the design came I am sure from the Biolase, and some people really like that handpiece. I dont mind it but with the scope its hard to see around the back of the handpiece.

This is one thing that really is needed when you have a scope is the ability to see around the handpiece. With regular drills we either tip the handpiece one way, use the sides of the bur, or use surgical length burs. Not possible with the laser. I really maintain that the pen type delivery system helps if you want to use a scope. I can easily move my head slightly with loupes and the contra-angle hanpiece to get a good view of the operating field but with the scope you really need to be able to see around the handpiee without tipping the head (remember the laser is only end cutting) or trying unsuccessfully to use the sides of the tips.

I will post a simple case of an occlusal that I used your fantastic tips on how to open up a groove in the erbium section in a minute . I did it this week and you cannot get this kind of photographs with the contrangle handpiece ……….

When you look at the case, look very carefully at the handpiece and visualize the ability to see………its unparalleled.

    Hi Guys,

Actually the straight handpiece came as a result of my asking for one about three years ago for surgical stuff and some anterior work that I was used to doing with a straight handpiece with the CO2 laser. It is a great hendpiece, cuts faster than the contrangle aand i highly recommend it for all Waterlaser users. You won’t use it every day but it is wonderful when you need it.

Stewart: I know that I talked to quite a few Waterlase users who love their units but will say that one of the nice things about the Delight when they use it is the handpiece and visibility with it. The pen type grip and the curved tips really give you alot better visibility particularly with the scope. I know that before the handpiece came out that people were asking Biolase for something similar for the Waterlase and perhaps your original comments and the comments from others helped bring it to market.

In addition , I noticed that before the Hoya boys brought their contra angle handpiece on board that some people who were evaluating both lasers (waterlase and delight) preferred the feel of the handpiece design and went that route. Obviously part of the benefit for bringing a contra angle style handpiece onboard is to eliminate that issue for buyers who are testing both.

Hopefully that clears up my point and I did post the occlusal case and I doubt you can get pictures like this using a scope with any contraangle handpiece, the head will always be in the way.
