Doc Malcmacher gave the keynote lecture at the WCLI this weekend. He did a little bit about communcating and used the word “OH” as an example. He asked us to all say “OH” in a puzzled tone, a surprised tone, an indifferent tone, a pissed tone and a seductive tone.
One word with so many different meanings and the only way to tell what is meant by the speaker is the tone in which it is delivered.
If we were all sitting around reviewing cases and started busting each others chops about stuff it would be taken totally different then if it was done on the net! Its like the word “OH”. Without the tone or body language it is pretty hard to tell the meaning.
The only way we can continue to learn from each other is to realize the short comings of communicating on the net. To be a bit thickskinned at times an assume what is said is meant in a constructive manner whenever we post a case. Responding to a posted case is just as risky as posting a case.
The Laser forum has always been a safe friendly place to post cases and ask questions. I believe it still is and hope that NEVER changes! We may have to continuely work at it. I think its worth it!
How about you?
