Glenn van AsSpectatorHere is a little 9 year old guy who got whacked in the mouth by a baseball. I felt so sorry for him, and he was a trooper.
Show you the pics when he arrived, and also show you the interesting PA.
Look what was EMBEDDED in his upper lip. Poor fella. I noticed it on the radiograph and removed it.
I erbium yagged the upper central and built it up quickly by resin to cover the tooth. Will wait and see on endo. I didnt make any promises to mom but she was ecstatic to have a tooth back. I had no assistant so it was a tough one as it happened a couple of weeks ago later at night.
CYa folks.

ASISpectatorHi Glenn,
Very nice documentation as usual.
Did you have to numb the upper lip to get the piece out? That is a great capture of the cotton pliers getting a hold of the piece of tooth!
Super case of trauma management.

I had a case 6 mos ago with a 40+ year old woman that got hit in the mouth with a vacuum cleaner handle, and severed the central 2mm above the pulp horn, with no lip trauma.
Because it was a clean break, I lightly etched both the piece and remaining tooth with the Er:YAG, and used a flowable composite in between the pieces. Looked great and still going strong w/out endo 6 mos later.
Hard tissue lasers are great tools.

Glenn van AsSpectatorHi Andrew and Eric: thanks Andrew for the kind words. I did numb up the lip as the tooth was really really sore to cold……he came in today and the post op looked great on the tooth, no signs of RCT being needed and the upper lip has healed but the darn lower lip looks a little puffy still and I might need the erbium to remove some scar type tissue building up there.
Will post pics below of how he looked today at 2 weeks healing.
Eric …thanks for the post. I couldnt reglue the tooth in because it was shattered in pieces (3 or 4) and nothing could fit back together so I reglued it. The lovely mom brought in a couple of bottles of wine for myself and my assistant for the after hours call………what a nice touch.
The little guy looked great today. Made my whole day.
