I would like to know from those who are using lasers how the lasers have increased their patient referrals or marketing. I am considering buying a laser for clinical purposes but want to know if it really increases referrals or how it has helped with marketing your GP dental practices.

I know Rodger Kurthy claimed it increased his practice by &#36400,000, however he also sells books about it too. I would like to hear from others who have not written books about it and how it has benefited their practice growth. I’d like to see how valuable the marketing benefit has been for others before I spend &#3650,000 or so.

    Thanks!

Hi there……I can only speak for myself and tell you that lasers and to a lesser degree scopes have done several things for my practice.

    1. Doubled my new patients
    2. Helped increase my gross from 400 K to 1.2 K this year coming up ( projected) .
    3. Made my life easier in the chair, and definitely more enjoyable.

The growth in my practice was due to ……..

    1. doing new procedures such as osseous recontouring, frenectomies, gingivectomies, biopsies that I didnt do before.
    2. Doing more procedures in a given appointment.
    3. Marketing internally, nothing beats the laser for new patients , NOTHING…….but it is getting harder now as more and more dentists are seeing how the laser can help put more butts in the chair.
    4. In some offices the laser is in room #2 and it is in the ” non anesthetic ” room. Procedures are completed quickly with greater revenue while the anesthetic procedure patients are numbing up in room #1.
    5. Charge more…….many here are charging more for procedures when they get the laser.

Just because you buy it ………doesnt mean they will come.

You must internally and externally market the laser. Don Wilson is someone who has a package for Delight lasers who wish to market, you have to buy it from him, and it is intended as a newspaper advertising.

My experiences have been positive……..I am booking in January, but individual results will vary……..

I am pretty new to the Laser and am currently working on internal and external marketing programs. I would be happy to share with the group how things progress. I am in a fairly unique position in that I have a fairly new office and have lots of room to grow. We have been monitoring our progress over the last 4 years so it will be easy to see how things progress with the laser.
So far I have had my Erbium for 2 months now and we have done 112 proceedures with the laser. Feedback has been fairly positive. I am still on the learning curve so there is lots of room for improvement with technique and marketing.

Hi…I too own a relatively ‘new’ practice and have seen alot of interest with direct mail marketing.  I have used the lasers(DELight, 980 diode) since late June and first marketed them in September.  Production, NPs, bookings…all is up.  It definitely makes business sense. The dollars and cents part of it is a no brainer.
More importantly, I think you have to wrap your mind around the idea that you will be providing dental treatment differently.  Magnification is a must.
    Good luck.

Like Glenn said, I do alot more procedures than before and have a lot of fun to do them.
I had been the first laser dentist in  quebec city and just a small marketing give us that result.

I can say that having laser technology to offer my patients has added a consistent 25-30% increase, on average, to my gross (minimum) over the 13+ years I have used lasers.

It really depends on how much effort one puts into marketing.

I remember one year (1997) where we had a lot of TV exposure, and my gross doubled. Sounds great until it came time to pay the taxes (ouch!).

Now I prefer the steady trickle of new patients from a small “infotisement”, instead of “sugar rush” of NP’s from major media………

I did absolutely zero external marketing. Internal marketing was only limited as I’m the only one using laser in my group practice ( may upset other dentists in the office).
My number of patients didn’t increase but I’m providing a better service and charging extra for using the laser. My income increased by 10% while seeing less patients.
I do get referrals from patients who have had laser treatment.
