Well I thought I’d start a post regarding the WCLI meeting in NJ.

Among the more interesting things I learned-

Aussie wondermix for temps and pulp exposures, can’t wait to get some [the mix, not the exposures;) ]

    Mark Colonna Bulk Reduction tips

    Soft tissue coding for medical

How to better standardize my photos

Using just slow speed suction w/ the laser- what a difference cutting

pk settings -tested mine and they need resetting

    Things I liked –

spending time w/ Mark ,Robert, Ron, David (glad I could help get you more time on the computer and a new laser), Al, Stu, Bob B

Getting to meet Tarun, Sameer, Graeme, and other presenters as well as Paul, Tim, and all the other laser dentists who confirmed how much laser dentists like to share and see others suceed.

    The food!

    Disappointments

The hotel-old and musty (at least my room)

The advanced perio presenter (not Bob Barr) who was extolling the virtues of the Waterlase for perio and when questioned cited references that studied the nd:YAG and when asked about the relevence suggested I email him at home because the study must be in his database.

How about the rest of the attenders sharing what they learned and thought?

What a great meeting. I was actually awed by what I learned there. I was almost convinced to go with the DElight, but, with that kind of cutting edge research and support, I bought a Waterlase today. Can’t wait to get started!!

Along the same lines as Ron:
Among the more interesting things I learned-
    Ditto plus.
Cranking the waterlase down. That is using 1.75W with 60A and 30Water to cut enamel at 1mm . Have not done a Class 1 yet. But Holy cow it worked and use a bunch less water.
I was right on with Treating that geographic Tongue and two of biostim lectures were great . More on that later.
    Use of Iodine rinse .
    The Colonna reduction tips!!!!!!

    Things I liked-
Getting to meet everyone . Putting that face to a name.Seeing old friends.
Seeing smoke come out of Ron’s ears after the advanced perio. program!!! smile.gif
Allen, saving my hide by repeating everyones name for me at least 10 times a day.
Busting Larry’s chops about not buying the waterlase and threating to put him out on the street on our way to the airport.
    Ditto the food!!!
    Disappointments-
Not getting to take Sameer’s and Tarun’s course.
Several evil people who told my wife how much I am on the forms!
Not having a real certification course.
Not being aable to bust Stu’s chops about getting a lobster dinner anymore!! smile.gif.
The two hour plane delay along with not being able to get out of the plane once we got to Tampa!

Over all a great meeting. Another one of those rare meetings that you find easy to talk with the lectures and they were very giving of information.

    My turn,
I hope that I don’t erect another brick wall with my posting.

    Things learned:
vestibuloplasty, torus removal, 3rd molar ext., apico
LLLT and how to pronounce Graeme’s last name.
Most importantly I learned there is not just one way to do things (like perio). That we are collectively setting the standards.

    Things I enjoyed:
the second lobster and the 5th and 6th soft shell crabs.
    conversing with others without typing
    actually meeting many of you
    The “HYDROKINETICS”
    the comaraderie
    winning the golfing contest

OK ,so I didn’t win, but I did manage to hit the ball without hurting anyone.

    Regrets:
not having time to see all the great lecturers

    David,
I hope I didn’t get you into hot water with the in-law remark.

Hey everyone, Just got home, and then tomorrow, off to Vancouver and the World Congress of Microdentistry Meeting. Very busy. Hope to meet Glenn in PERSON!!!!

Ron, meeting you, dinner, was absolutely fantastic. Thanks for coming to my advanced course. I hope I didn’t embarass you when I mentioned the web site. You are such a warm, kind, and soft spoken person, a real treat to be around. Yes, the rooms were VERY MUSTY. I woke up on Sat. morning to do the Presentation course, and couldn’t literally breathe for 2 solid hours. I thank God that Kim Kutsch was there to actually lecture! In addition, you have a mean lefty golf swing! Too bad you don’t play more often. Let’s have a meeting where we can all waterski…THAT would be a total blast!!

Al Williams…the second human to use the laser for a crown prep. I am sorry we didn’t get to spend much time together as I really wanted to get to know you as well. Next time, I promise. I overcommited at this meeting, as usual, and didn’t get the time to really meet you, as I would have liked. Rain check????Please?

    David, See you at Stu’s!

For those interested, the WCLI Executive Board met, and we HAVE set the standards for certification, which will be awesome, just wait.

Ok, The Hydrokinetics…(Glenn, hydrokinetic energy DOES exist!)…we had so much fun at the Hard Rock. I hope everyone enjoyed the music. I think Al took a ton of pictures, maybe we can see some online.

The education was incredible…I always learn so much…and already applied it today in the office. Please, let’s all keep sharing and learning from eachother. Ron’s forum here is the BEST of the BEST of the BEST, as are the posters. Sorry for the long winded post, but it WAS fun, and this was a part of it, this board.

See those of you in Vancouver!

    Sincerely,
    Mark

    Lets talk about learning…
Grahme, Grahme , Grahme set the standard for diagnosis and microdentistry. If u didnt get his diagnodent cd, get it it is absolutely incredible…
I felt the workshop on powepoint and speaking was great ….already suggested a full day session next time….Dr Berna from Italy does some amazing stuff with the laser…it was interesting to see him to do chin grafts, sinus lifts etc….I thought the LLLT has great promise and no too far away from being common practice..All is all …a great time….

    Learned:

About new Colonna bulk reduction tips for large preps
Concept of pk? settings and how they may affect patient sensitivity(I still don’t know what a “pk” is)
Treating caries comprehensively by Doug Young(Xylitol gum, baking soda)
Graeme Milicich – peripheral rim theory around tooth AND – when you get those erbium white spots on your cavosurface margin that tend to show through your composite, take a hand instrument and scrape them off til they dont show when water is applied and then they wont show in your composite
    Dmitri Boutoussov:
    2940 minus 2780 = 630(red) minus 470(blue)
2940 is absorbed by H20 300% > 2780(I knew it was greater but did not realize that much)

    Likes:

Meeting the LDF gang; meeting Bill Chen, Paul Bradley, John Karna(at one table); the Starbucks coffee in the gift shop; Young/Milicich and Kammer/Kaminer/Tracey lectures; hangin’ at the bar with with Dmitri Boutoussov, Dave and Susan Kimmels free transportation

    Dislikes:

    Overemphasis on hydrokinetic theory
    Overemphasis on 2780
I sneezed during the History of Lasers lecture on
Holmium:YAG/Erbium:YAG(seemed like a strange grouping) and missed everything that was said the entire weekend regarding Er:YAG
Dave Kimmel’s Guided Tour Between the Airport and the Seaview
Mark Colonna blowing us off at the Friday lunch Rountable Discussion(yeah you’ll get a raincheck!)
Gerald Bittner’s stupid photo taken with MY camera(Ron Kaminer and I snickered, told him he should have used macro and quickly deleted that silly thing)

    Hey Al,
I DIDN’T Blow anyone off at a lunch roundtable. First, I didn’t know I was signed up to be there, second, I was sick with a severe sinus reaction to the mold in my room. Sorry. Hopefully next time. I NEVER miss food! In addition, I had to speak at 1:30pm, and actually had to go over my lecture with Stu who I was speaking with. They gave us our meals (I didn’t eat) in the lecture hall. That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it!

MArk don’t give Al a hard time. He was still recovering from motion sickness from my guided tour the night before. That and the fact that I was the one dancing with the blond in the pictures! smile.gif
