Thanks Kelly: I am going to tell you guys something.

When I first started doing the scope thing , it was a general use of the scope for everything and lecturing on it.

I had many people tell me I better figure out one niche in dentistry that was best suited for scopes. It never occurred to me until recently that lasers are perfectly suited because of the small fibers (300 and 400 micron) in soft tissue and the need to visualize the hard tissue lasers and their cutting action.

I started to get a little gun shy after taking alot of abuse about the scopes on some forums from some people who had never even tried it. Its funny how the laser crowd are becoming some of the biggest converts.

I think its because they are techies to begin with and in addition because they are beginning to realize how important vision is to laser dentistry.

I will try to do it next year and will see if some people can help me again like this year.

It will be a blast in New Orleans next year.

In closing I know which laser cut which prep……Hint, its the repetition rate that makes ALL of the difference (right Allen?)

I have seen the picture before from Ben Ongs work and under the microscope I know EXACTLY what 20 vs 30 Hz will do!!

Tell me I am wrong Allen.(GRIN)

PS GREAT PIC AND ALLEN I WILL PM YOU IN A FLASH.

    Hi Mark,

The big C is a terrible thing. Your aunt and her family are in our thoughts. My dad passed away from stomach cancer in ’97 after being diagnosed just a little over a year ago before.

Life is very fragile. One’s world can change from one day to the next.

    Regards,

    Andrew

In terms of the hog teeth preps Dr. Gregg did guess correctly which erbium prepared the teeth and I think Dr. van As did as well. Of course one out of two is pretty good odds!!!!!!!

The preps were purposely done with the most comparable settings I could achieve although there are differences in handpieces, tips and another factor which is a major difference between the two erbs. Here are the settings and tips used for the preps:

20 Hz, 300 mJoules, 600 um tips at the distal(one of the tips is tapered from 750 to 600 um)
