Ken, that’s a nice clean set up. I got a flyer the other day from Gordon Christenson selling several DVD’s on different topics. One of them was regarding operatory design and layout. I think it was about &#36125 US. He does a good job researching and presenting his topics so if you want the phone or address, just ask and I’ll post it. Here’s the image of our operatory. I can push the laser to the right, the patient can walk next to it, it’s totally out of the way. We can push it to the foot of the chair, the corner, anywhere. We place our air connection at the foot of the cabinet on the right so power/air is all out of the way. Scope is ceiling mounted, easy in play, out of play as needed, and everything is Adec rear delivery. Hope this example gives you some ideas. Just another way to do it with all the new technology. I even have room for a cerec or two 😉

Off the top of my head, here’s a few things to consider in your comparison-
Reliability- what is the machine’s history of needing repairs, some are better than others
Service- how many techs and what is average wait time
Continued warranty cost- after initial warranty-2500-5500?
Cost and durability of tips and fiber- some types of tips seem to hold up better than others
Financial stability of the company- will they be around for support?how many lasers are they selling now?
Included training- CD/in office/ at a well know facility?
Special needs to include in op e.g 110 vs 220 power?
Portability- can you move this op to op- look at size and weight

I think each of us has an opinion on ‘what’s best’ but it is predicated on many of the things above and some may not make any difference to you.
I’m sure there may be some that come on and post saying Brand X is best. Be sure they aren’t compensated by any laser company and be assured there are many that won’t say brand X sucks because they don’t want to be sued.

Hi Ken,
The photo is taken from the entrypoint. My ceilings are actually 12 feet. Had to have small extension added to the pole, but no problems. The Plasma is 42″ NEC, HiDefinition. I have a high def camera set up with a feed to another plasma in another room as well. The high definition is way cool. Unbelievably real. Only better would be 3D.

Hey Mark…..couple of questions.  What brand of High def did you go with.  Have you got a bigger picture of your operatory setup with the plasma screen as I want to send this to my rep to talk about hooking that up in my op.

Please find a copy of my operatory and I want to put the plasma screen up high where the pink blinds are to replace the TV there.  The Versawave goes right behind the Argon laser against the wall (not where you see it for the photo) and I move it in and out of the way for the patient.  It is simple to move it back and forth.

Hope all is well and again let me know about the video camera but you can see alot of the equipment we have in the office but its not like that now as I need to build one op like Mark has.

One problem with how I practice now is that I have gotten into a dreadful habit of doing one tooth at a time and I am swamped.  Now I am slowly trying to get into doing more dentistry on less patients.
