    Hi Mark,
Is the HD camera built -in ? Do you have problem with the camera being off center as compare with direct viewing through the mic ?
I am trying out to take photo with a JVC 3CCD camera.
Pretty off centered. Here it is.

The video camera may be on your non dominant side for vision. Switch it over to the other side as long as the beamsplitter will allow it and the amount of light is the same coming out of the other side (ie 50/50 on both sides where 50% of the light comes out to your eyes and 50% goes to the camera).

I dont believe its the camera but most likely it is your dominant eye (the one that controls the position horizontally of your vision ) is not on the same side as the camera.

Check out your dominant eye by staring at a distant spot (say a light switch). Now close one eye and stare at the switch . Did it move………if so then you closed your dominant eye. If not then you are staring at the image with your dominant eye……

If you see only black……you are a dummy and closed BOTH eyes!!

Hey………..thanks alot Nick. You know what is best about DT and especially here on LDF is the FRIENDS that I have made from my travels. Well except for Kimmel!!

I really mean that, in all my travels it is the people who have made the big difference. I forget where I was and what I lectured about (at my age half the time this happens during the lecture) but I dont forget the faces.

I want to thank Nick , David, and Ron. We all have different practices, different lasers and different ideas but we all are interested in helping further the cause of lasers in dentistry.

If the article helps get others excited about the profession then it has done its job.

thanks for the kind words guys………I really really appreciate it.

They told me they were going to have David Kimmel do the spread but that I was much more photogenic than him!!

Besides he didnt have a scope yet!

Cya and again………THANKS ……..you made my day.

Had a patient in earlier this week who has been reading about cavitational lesions on the internet. In spite of what anyone may think of these, has anyone tried laser therapy on these suspected lesions? She knows I have the laser and we discussed possibly using the laser in a defocused mode in the sites where the 3rd molars were. Any suggestions as to settings, time of application to each site, etc? She’s not crazy about the idea of cavitational surgery that was recommended by several on the sites she explored – and neither am I. Opinions?

    Hi Glenn,
My right eye is the dominant one and the camera is set on the left. You are spot on !
I did try closing both eyes and you were spot on too ! I see black!
However, when the camera is switched to video mode , the off center problem was not noticed.
    It’s a JVC GZ-MC500
    photo 500meg/pix ; video: microdrive 4G
The video quality is good but it’s autofocus.

Cool stuff Ken…….glad that the photo problem is solved. I think the video is different in the way it is set up in the camera. It only takes from the center portion of the camera usually.

In any event I am glad that the photo thing is solved. In addition, is your camera a 3 chip or high def camera.

Mark are you shooting in high def mode. If so how does it look on a laptop or in a presentation of yours.

    Thanks

What the heck are cavitations and cavitational surgery? Am I missing something?

    OK now I know. http://www.drshankland.com/osteocavitation_lesions.html
Wow what will they come up with next. I know a lot of people with empty spaces in there head. Now I can call them cavity heads. Just think of the blond jokes now….

    Glenn,
    It’s 3CCD, not hi def.
JVC has a newer model with 30G HHD , external battery for longer recording and less heat. Mine has a battery within so it runs out after 1 hr and hot to handle.
There’s a new Sony high def 1080i, I like that too!

THis is the best part from Dr. Shankland’s website. It is under his biography section.

Dr. Shankland, using a palm strike, explodes through 6″ of cement bricks as he visualizes managed care!

I would like to chime in on this topic with some fatherly advice. I’ll start with a question…Did you ever go into a golf store and look at some top of the line clubs? How about tennis, look at the best of the best raquets? Or with regard to dentistry, every try to find a handpiece that cut the perfect prep or would allow you to do the perfect prep? You probably said yes to at least one or two of those questions. The reason you looked at those items was that you wanted optimum performance from the product. The answer to what is the best lies in you and not in the product. Your ability to master laser knowledge on any of the lasers that you querried about will allow you to achieve your goal. Just as there are no majic golf clubs or dental handpieces so are there no majic lasers. It’s all in the knowledge that you apply to the machine that you choose. You can’t buy experience, or knowledge for that matter, you must earn it, one day at a time. So look, feel and touch the lasers that you have mentioned and at least one of them will talk to you. Pick it and start your journey. All the ones you mentioned are good. It’s like talking to someone about the ‘best’ car or boat or anything. They all work the best or the worst depending on whoes driving them. Good luck on you decision. Nick Luizzi

Thanks for the laughs – especially the remark about “holes in their head.”
All this aside, if there are such necrotic lesions, would using the laser defocused in a biostimulation mode offer any help for healing? What settings and for how long would anyone suggest using the laser?
    Thanks

This laser is good but it ain’t no miracle worker. I would think you would have to enuculate the lesion to bleeding bone and maybe graft it? I can’t see how laser light would correct it.

At the initial Millennium Users meeting 3 years ago we had a speaker from New York City, Martha Cortes.
