Why would they say they can do it when they represent the manufacturer and then deny it was ever done? I have heard Lares tout it's laser has the ability to do LANAP in “wispered” tones at trade shows. I don't think that they say this any longer out of suit fears.
To answer your other question, you probably could do LANAP with the Fotona unit if you are licensed to do it (though you would risk some failures and some patient danger during the procedure due to the limited number of pulse widths), but you have to be licensed to do the procedure.
To answer it in another way, I have had cementum mediated attachment with a diode, but it was inconsistant and rare (even within the same patients mouth!). You might be able to get cementum mediated attachment with the erbium wavelength on the Powerlase. Dr. Gregg says that you could probably get CMA with a hot paperclip if you did it perfectly.
So, until you get a LANAP license and know how to do it, try not.
Well, then I'll edit my comments to say that I have never been told by Brian, my rep that the Lares can do LANAP. He told me of their technique of perio therapy mentioned on their web sight.
I am puzzled by the threat? As a practicing dentist I am not aware of any possible way I can be limited from trying any technique of care for a patient based on any “licensing”.
At the risk of being attacked as everyone on DT was when they mentioned it, an “essential equivalent” 501 application with the FDA with the LANAP listed as the use is a whole lot different than a dental procedure requiring a license. Please give me the legal equivalent for anything we do in dentistry that is equivalent to this?
I am not at all against periolase, as I have mentioned, my quest is to understand what is the science behind all of this so that our patients will benefit and have yet to get even a remotely satisfactory answer how we can, among ourselves, justify any sense of propriety to a technique of care.
