Etienne, there is a doc here in town who has a Deka CO2 which he loves and also a Deka ErYAG and he tells me that he get lots of sensitivity and doesnt use his much.

Does the water flow come out onto the tooth with the window type delivery system. I dont know if your system is as versatile as some of the systems with contact tips. Does anyone in your area have the unit. What are they using for settings. What is your water flow per minute, and where does it fall. Can you cut Class Vs , incisal edges, class 3s or are all preps sensitive.

Measure your water flow and with the scope see where the water falls when you use a mirror system (does it hit where the beam is touching and ablating the tooth).

There is a massive difference between window type delivery systems and tips where the water flow can be controlled much more easily to fall where you are aiming.

If you do test the water flow mine is around 14-18ml/min.

Has anyone compared the clinical results of PAD treatment of periodontal pockets with those of the LNAP technique. Perhaps someone has both lasers and will share with the laser community.

Thanks Glenn…I researched the Deka site and found no information on the type of delivery system, so I was having a hard time trying to chime in here. Sounds like you have everything under control…AGAIN!!!;)

    Hi Michael,

    What is “PAD”?

And do you mean Laser ANAP (LANAP)?

    Thanks,

    Bob

I am new to the forum and have had a diode laser for 9 years. I am looking into a new laser and am intriqued by the claims of the Periolase. Can anyone tell me if this is a doctor only procedure or do your hygenists use the laser?

Mark I have seen the Fotona Fidelis in Australia where it has a loyal following (the unit is built in SLovenia ) and it is an articulated arm and in addition it has a mirror handpiece (great for anterior not for posterior in my view).

I can find out from Tom Haney (he knows a ton) why the unit has more sensitivity but the fellow in town here in our study club has ALOT of sensitivity on ALL molar preps.

Bob ……PAD stands for Photo Activated Disinfection. I am meeting with the guys from Ondine here in Vancouver this week to look at their product which looks promising in my opinion for mild to moderate pockets (not the other end of the spectrum).

Dye is injected into the pocket and then the diode laser is used on the outside of the tissue and transillumination helps with bacterial kill.

Ondine is a local company that is doing this and they are getting ahead here in town with this approach. They will be around on May 5th when you come up…….have a look.

PAD is gaining a foothold in endo as well (Lambrechts is someone I will see in Amsterdam when I lecture there in June 21st at the Roots summit as he is talking about PAD for endo).

Bob Gregg posts LOTS here and as the co owner and co developer with Del McCarthy (who also posts here) he knows the most about the system BUT as someone who has spent quite a bit of time with Bob over the years (Purely plutonic!!) I can tell you that LANAP is not something delegatable to the hygienist.

Doctors only, and the combo of the wavelength and the protocol is what works for Bob and so many others.

    Hi Guys
I know this is a dental laser site but thought the following might be of interest…or maybe not smile.gif

I hurt my finger a week ago and with wearing gloves the whole day it just wouldn’t heal. I got so annoyed today, I took a picture..

    Before laser.jpg

I then used the Nd:YAg at 50mJ pulse energy, 10Hz in non-contact mode for a total of 140J and took another picture…

    5 minutes later.jpg

This might be taking things a bit far…;)))

    Hi Glenn!!
To what extremes to I have to go to be “upgraded” from a “frequent participant” to the next level?? 😉

No, taken with my Canon 10D, macro lense and ringflash. I still need to get the picture taking facility with the scope sorted out…

    Take care
