Ken, that’s a nice clean set up. I got a flyer the other day from Gordon Christenson selling several DVD’s on different topics. One of them was regarding operatory design and layout. I think it was about &#36125 US. He does a good job researching and presenting his topics so if you want the phone or address, just ask and I’ll post it. Since my ops are such a train wreck I was thinking about buying his DVD to get some ideas. Nick

    Hi Ron and Nick,
Thanks for the compliments. My friend’s op is very nice and neat.
    Mine is pretty cramped.
A wider op in my set up will enable me to walk around the laser.
Cart type may cause more traffic should there be another laser (periolase) or Cerec.
I think I’ll keep my right hand side free from any fixtures. I still want to place a standup mic on the left of the chair! Can’t use ceiling nor wall mount ( not suitable location in my office )!
Do show me your op layout and learn from your ideas.

An air purifier will be a good addition in the op to remove smell, bacteria, virus, LASER PLUME ? See purifier ( also drying up instruments lying above it )just above the cart at the corner of the room.

I’ll check out the DVD, probably on CRA web-site ?

Here’s the image of our operatory. I can push the laser to the right, the patient can walk next to it, it’s totally out of the way. We can push it to the foot of the chair, the corner, anywhere. We place our air connection at the foot of the cabinet on the right so power/air is all out of the way. Scope is ceiling mounted, easy in play, out of play as needed, and everything is Adec rear delivery. Hope this example gives you some ideas. Just another way to do it with all the new technology. I even have room for a cerec or two 😉

    Hi Mark,
Very nice op! Where is the entrance please?
I wish I could ceiling mount my mic. not possible as the ceiling is very high!
One benefit i have is that there is no need for air line as the erbium has a built in compressor.
I like very much the plasma screen. this is what I have in mind also. 42inches?

Considering a hard tissue addition to my Nd:YAG. What’s good or the best? Hoya, Opus Duo, Waterlase? Need some help here. Thanks

    David,
Off the top of my head, here’s a few things to consider in your comparison-
Reliability- what is the machine’s history of needing repairs, some are better than others
Service- how many techs and what is average wait time
Continued warranty cost- after initial warranty-2500-5500?
Cost and durability of tips and fiber- some types of tips seem to hold up better than others
Financial stability of the company- will they be around for support?how many lasers are they selling now?
Included training- CD/in office/ at a well know facility?
Special needs to include in op e.g 110 vs 220 power?
Portability- can you move this op to op- look at size and weight

I think each of us has an opinion on ‘what’s best’ but it is predicated on many of the things above and some may not make any difference to you.
I’m sure there may be some that come on and post saying Brand X is best. Be sure they aren’t compensated by any laser company and be assured there are many that won’t say brand X sucks because they don’t want to be sued.

    I hope that helps.

thanks Ron. When I posted this in did not occur to me that this could be a touchy subject. Hence why I already got a private e-mail from one member who essentially reiterated your post. Good points that I will seriously consider in making my decision. I was just looking for the easy way out hoping to get a quick answer from the ones with experience with these lasers. Thanks for the input.

    Hi Ken,
The photo is taken from the entrypoint. My ceilings are actually 12 feet. Had to have small extension added to the pole, but no problems. The Plasma is 42″ NEC, HiDefinition. I have a high def camera set up with a feed to another plasma in another room as well. The high definition is way cool. Unbelievably real. Only better would be 3D.

    Ron…ask Wayne!

Hey Mark…..couple of questions.  What brand of High def did you go with.  Have you got a bigger picture of your operatory setup with the plasma screen as I want to send this to my rep to talk about hooking that up in my op.

Please find a copy of my operatory and I want to put the plasma screen up high where the pink blinds are to replace the TV there.  The Versawave goes right behind the Argon laser against the wall (not where you see it for the photo) and I move it in and out of the way for the patient.  It is simple to move it back and forth.

Hope all is well and again let me know about the video camera but you can see alot of the equipment we have in the office but its not like that now as I need to build one op like Mark has.

One problem with how I practice now is that I have gotten into a dreadful habit of doing one tooth at a time and I am swamped.  Now I am slowly trying to get into doing more dentistry on less patients.

    Hope all is well………cya

I received a cold call from NLT today. They said they will be in my area Fri and wanted to know if I would like my WL(not MD) tuned up for &#361495. They also offer annual service contract for &#362495, new fiber &#361495 MD software upgrade &#36995.
When I was covered wit Biolase service contract they never, not once, told me to have it “tuned up” whatever that means. Do WL owners routinely get tune ups. What about the MD software upgrade? anyone know about this. I thought the handpiece also accounted for the improvement over the WL.
I will call them in the a.m. to get more details. Just curious what others are doing or have done.
